“Rohit Sharma responsible for India’s failure to win Test series in South Africa “: Sanjay Manjrekar

Sanjay Manjrekar has again hit out at Rohit Sharma after India failed to win the Test series in South Africa. The visitors lost the first Test by an innings and 32. Although they registered a comprehensive win by 7 wickets in the second game, there was no chance of lifting the first ever Test series trophy in the Island Nation.

Manjrekar was asked to rate Rohit’s captaincy in the Test series. “He was superb in the ICC World Cup 2023 and I felt bad for him after India lost against Australia in the final,” Sanjay Manjrekar said on ESPNcricinfo.

“However, I was not pleased with his leadership in Test series against South Africa. He made a lot of mistakes, which proved costly in the first Test. Mohammed Siraj saved Rohit in the second Test. He gave overs to Mukesh Kumar, which helped Aiden Markram to get going before Siraj returned to dismissed the centurion. Mukesh bowled more overs than Siraj in the second innings. Even Prasidh Krishna and Siraj bowled same number of overs,” he added.

Siraj was named the Player of the Match for taking 7 wickets in the second game. His 6-wicket haul in the first innings restricted South Africa to 55 runs. Rohit Sharma’s team was bowled out for 153 in their reply.

The host nation put up 176 runs in the second innings, with Jasprit Bumrah taking 6 wickets. It was not enough as the sub-continent team completed the chase of 79 runs in 12 overs.
