WestBridge Capital buys 15% stake in Edelweiss MF for ₹450 cr

WestBridge Capital, a $7-billion global investment firm with primary focus in India and the US, has acquired 15 per cent stake in Edelweiss Asset Management for ₹450 crore.

The deal provides WestBridge a strategic entry into a high-growth MF business with scale potential.

As of June-end, Edelweiss MF has a total AUM of ₹1.52 lakh crore and has registered a 44 per cent CAGR in the last five years. It reported net profit of ₹28 crore in the first quarter of FY26.

The fund house has equity assets under management of ₹72,600 crore, which has grown by 53 per cent over the last five years. Edelweiss MF logged net profit of ₹53 crore in FY25.

The current transaction values the business at 57 times P/E which aligns with industry benchmarks of 30-60 times.

Edelweiss Financial Services believes the transaction underscores the objective of value creation and value unlock journey in the MF business. In the last two decades, WestBridge has partnered with transformative entrepreneurs at every stage across both private and public markets.

Rashesh Shah, Chairman and MD, EFSL said the transaction reflects the confidence in the long-term potential of the company’s MF business and brings in a seasoned long-term partner to strengthen the growth path of Edelweiss MF.

The company has built a robust, innovation-led mutual fund franchise with strong equity momentum, he added.

Radhika Gupta, MD & CEO, Edelweiss MF said the fund house has scaled rapidly through consistent fund performance, product innovation and widening distribution strength.

The strategic insights and ecosystem of new partner WestBridge Capital will accelerate the fund house’s next phase of growth, she said.

Deepak Ramineedi, Partner, WestBridge Capital said the financialisation of savings is a massive industry tailwind and strongly believe Edelweiss MF is very well placed to benefit from the same.

The transaction is subject to approvals of the SEBI, the Competition Commission of India and other customary approvals. Nomura Financial Advisory and Securities (India) acted as the exclusive financial advisor to EFSL. Khaitan & Co acted as legal advisors to EFSL and Edelweiss MF and Trilegal acted as legal advisor to WestBridge Capital.
