(Watch) Sarfaraz Khan imitates Javed Miandad’s famous monkey jump in the opening Test against New Zealand

Sanjay Manjrekar compared Sarfaraz Khan to Javed Miandad after the former played a good knock in the second innings of the opening Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru. The young batter also imitated Miandad’s famous monkey jump on Day 4 of the contest.

Sarfaraz played a shot in the gap, and Rishabh Pant wanted two, but Khan refused and was soon jumping on the pitch to send back his partner, who luckily survived a run-out. New Zealand wicket-keeper Tom Bundell failed to hit the stumps despite getting a perfect throw from the fielder.

Sarfaraz completed his maiden Test hundred and kept India in the game. He shared a 135-run partnership with Virat Kohli on Day 3 of the contest, with India facing a deficit of 356 runs on the basis of first innings.

Kohli was dismissed on the last ball of the day, and Khan was joined by Rishabh the next day, with the hosts cutting the lead to less than 50 runs.

Sarfaraz, who scored a duck in the first innings, made his performance count in the second essay. India were dismissed for 46 runs, and the Kiwis posted 402 in reply.

Rachin Ravindra scored a hundred for the visiting side, while Devon Conway and Tim Southee also made important contributions.

Javed Miandad’s famous jump happened in the 1992 ODI World Cup match between India and Pakistan.
