Adelaide Strikers wicketkeeper Bridget Patterson was hit near the eye during the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) match against the Sydney Sixers. She left the field after taking a blow on her face in the fifth match of the ongoing season of the T20 league in Australia.
The Sixers won the toss and invited the rival team to bat first. Adelaide Strikers amassed 171 runs in the allotted 20 overs, with Bridget Patterson scoring 44 runs off 32 balls.
Ash Gardner took four wickets and conceded 32 runs for the Sydney Sixers.
During the fourth over of the run chase, Strikers bowler Darcie Brown’s ball beat Sixers captain Ellyse Perry. The awkward bounce surprised wicketkeeper Bridget Patterson, and the ball hit her near the right eye. She fell to the ground and was attended by the medical staff.
Ellie Johnston, the reserve wicket-keeper, was called to the field to replace her injured teammate.

Chasing 172 runs, the Sixers fell short by 11 runs despite magnificent batting by Sarah Bryce (62) and Ellyse Perry 954).
Anesu Mushangwe gave away 32 runs and took three wickets in the Strikers win.
Amanda-Jade was named the Player of the Match. “Great win for the team. The batting was good and then the bowlers completed the task. I enjoy bowling and had fun,” she said.
