Wasim Akram has refused to become the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi wanted Akram to come on board to help in cricketing matters but the veteran is already tied up with commitments.
According to Cricket Pakistan, Naqvi was facing flak for not giving time to Pakistan Cricket Board. He is the Federal Minister of Interior. The role of CEO revolves around handling matters related to cricket in Pakistan.
Due to his prior commitments and his regular visits to Australia for personal reasons, Akram said no to the offer. The position also required to settle down in Lahore, which Akram refused as resides in Karachi.
However, Akram is ready to help Pakistan cricket without financial benefits. The report also revealed that Akram liked the plans and vision of the PCB chairman.
The PCB offered the post to Waqar Younis, who agreed to join the Pakistan Cricket Board and will start his stint from August 1.
“The PCB wanted an individual who knows cricket and is capable of taking decisions. Waqar Younis was signed,” a source told Cricbuzz.
“Waqar will also handle other assignments given by the PCB chairman,” the source added.
