VW Tayron SUV Debuts In Europe, Previews The US-Market Tiguan

Volkswagen took the wraps off the global version of the Tayron, giving us a preview of the upcoming US-spec Tiguan. The new model is positioned in Europe’s midsize SUV segment, replacing the discontinued Tiguan Allspace. It sports a longer and redesigned body compared to the EU-spec Tiguan, offering a bigger boot and a seven-seat layout.

The new Tayron measures 4,770 mm (187.8 inches) long, or 219 mm (8.6 inches) longer than the EU-spec Tiguan. The extra length goes to the stretched wheelbase of 2,791 mm (109.9 inches), and the longer rear overhang.

The VW Tayron shares the powertrains with the Tiguan, including gasoline, diesel, mild-hybrid, and two plug-in hybrid options. Outputs range from the 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) of the entry-level 1.5 eTSI and 2.0 TDI mills, all the way up to the 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) of the most potent plug-in hybrid setup. The PHEVs share the 19.7 kWh battery pack, offering over 100 km (62 miles) of EV-only range.

All of the Tayron trims are fitted with a dual-clutch transmission. The majority sends power to the front wheels, but the more potent 2.0-liter TDI diesel with 190 hp (142 kW / 193 PS) is available with the 4Motion AWD system.

VW told us that while the US-spec Tiguan will share the long-wheelbase setup of the EU-spec Tayron, there will be differences in the sheet metal, powertrain options, and equipment set. The North American version of the 2025 VW Tiguan will premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

Pricing of the VW Tayron in Europe starts from €45,475 ($49,803), which makes it €7,225 ($7,914) more expensive than the Tiguan.
