Volvo is gearing up for the launch of the all-new ES90 that will take place on March 5. The fully electric sedan is a software-defined vehicle using Volvo’s Superset tech stack, and will be the most powerful Volvo ever in terms of core computing capacity. Furthermore, the company is working on an updated version of the S90 sedan, keeping it on sale as an ICE-powered alternative to the ES90.
Following the original teaser from last year, Volvo has shared an additional photo of the ES90, revealing an unconventional split taillight arrangement at the back. Despite adopting a three-box sedan silhouette, the EV appears to have extra LEDs on the sides of the windshield, in addition to the main taillights which are mounted on the regular spot.

Earlier teasers have already revealed the sleek roofline of the Volvo ES90, alongside a familiar greenhouse, flush door-handles, and a roof-mounted LiDar. The front end is expected to look similar to the EX90, adopting Volvo’s signature “Thor’s hammer” LED headlights.
The ES90 will share the SPA2 architecture with the EX90, as the more advanced SPA3 platform will be introduced with the Volvo EX60 in 2026. However, the new sedan will be the first Volvo to feature a dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin setup, giving it the highest core computing capacity in the lineup. Volvo said that the same configuration will be implemented in the EX90, with existing customers getting a free upgrade.

The system supports AI-based active safety features and sensors, contributing to Volvo’s “Safe Space Technology“. In terms of sensor hardware, the ES90 will be equipped with one LiDar, five radars, eight cameras, twelve ultrasonic sensors, and an “advanced driver understanding system inside the car”.
As with the mechanically-related SUV, the electric sedan will feature Volvo Cars Superset tech stack – including hardware and software modules and systems – that will eventually be applied in the automaker’s entire EV lineup. Software updates will allow the ES90 to “continuously evolve and improve over time” in the areas of safety, connectivity, and performance.
The Volvo S90 Is Getting A Facelift
Besides the ES90, Volvo also working on a heavily updated version of the ICE-powered equivalent, the Volvo S90 sedan, which is expected to be one of the five product launches planned for 2025. Photos of the model have leaked online, revealing completely redesigned front and rear ends.
The S90 was originally introduced back in 2016 and received a mild update in 2020. At the moment, it is not clear if the V90 estate will also benefit from the new redesign. Last month, Volvo promised to introduce “meaningful upgrades” for two of its existing models within 2025, with one of them being the recently facelifted XC60.

By extending the lifecycle of older ICE-powered models, Volvo is offering alternative options to its expanding fully electric lineup, after abandoning its goal of becoming an EV-only brand by 2030. The same strategy was followed by the recently facelifted XC90 flagship SUV that joined the fully electric EX90.
