“Visa delay made by Test debut more memorable”: Shoaib Bashir

Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir, the 20-year-old making his test debut for England after having visa issues, returned 2-100 in 28 overs, while wrist spinner Rehan Ahmed took 2-61 in 16 overs.

Bashir had to return to the UK to get his visa stamped. He missed the first Test in Hyderabad but saw England beating India from the dressing room. He admitted that making it to India for the Test matches was never in doubt.

“I knew I would be here as the BCCI and RCB were working hard to sort out things. I have made my debut and that’s what matters in the end. The delay made my debut more memorable,” Shoaib Bashir said.

Bashir’s maiden Test wicket was Rohit Sharma.

“Getting Rohit Sharma out was special. He plays well against the spinners. I love playing cricket and this is what I always wanted to do.

“The day was good for us as we managed to take 6 wickets. We will try to finish their innings as early as possible.”

Bashir was presented with his Test cap Jack Leach, who was ruled out due to an injury.

Shoaib Bashir also spoke about his conversation with skipper Ben Stokes before playing his first game. ‘Remember why you took up cricket as your profession, remember your family members, go out and show what have you got as a spinner. We are aware about your talent, so go out and give your best.’ Those words increase my confidence.”
