Former India player Ambati Rayudu has hit out at Virat Kohli for Royal Challengers Bengaluru failure to win an IPL trophy since the tournament’s inception in 2008. He commented after Kohli was dismissed by a spinner in the IPL 2024 match against Lucknow Super Giants. The biggest issue with the RCB over the years has been the lack of support for the players. They allowed match-winners like Shane Watson, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mitchell Starc, and Shivam Dube to leave the franchise.
Kohli was RCB captain for years and had his say in the retention and auction process, but the team never bought quality bowlers. This problem has impacted them year after year. Even in the batting order, they have been top-order heavy, and once that is exposed, there was and is hardly anyone who can take them to a win.
“Virat Kohli was RCB captain for a long time. He had his say in important retention and auction matters, but the team never bought quality bowlers. Even the top performers with them didn’t get the backing and left the squad. The same players performed well after joining the other franchises. He didn’t play his role to perfection.
“Kohli has scored over 7000 runs for the franchise but tell me the name of another batter who is on the list of the top run-getters for RCB. There is hardly anyone. A team can’t win a trophy riding on the shoulders of one player,” Ambati Rayudu said on Star Sports.
