Virat Kohli was shocked to see the lack of game awareness by Mohammed Siraj during the 39th over of Australia’s innings. India were on top against Australia with six battles back in the dressing room. Pat Cummins played a shot wide of gully on the first delivery of Siraj’s over, and the captain and Marnus Labuschagne ran four despite the fielder managing to stop the boundary.
When the throw came in, the two batters were in the process of completing the fourth run, and Virat wanted to throw the ball towards the bowler’s end to run out Marnus. However, Siraj was not backing, as he had already walked back towards his run-up mark. In fact, he didn’t even look at the batters despite the ball being still in play. Kohli shouted to remind Siraj about his blunder and clearly looked annoyed.
Siraj has bowled well in patches, but his overall performance hasn’t been impressive. He was expected to share the workload of senior speedster Jasprit Bumrah, but Siraj has let down the trust of his teammates.
Former players Sunil Gavaskar and Sanjay Manjrekar have predicted the removal of the bowler from the fifth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Overall, he has taken 15 wickets at an average of 31.53 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
