“Virat Kohli can score a hundred in the second innings of the Perth Test”: Cheteshwar Pujara

Cheteshwar Pujara is backing Virat Kohli to score a hundred in the second innings of the Perth Test. The veteran managed just five runs in the first chance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. His lean patch in red-ball cricket has become a cause of concern for the team management, and he landed in Australia after managing just 93 runs in six innings against New Zeeland.

Even the centuries have been hard to come in the last five years, with the 36-year-old managing just three in the most extended format. He has been ordinary against the spinners and was bowled on a full toss in one of the Tests against the Kiwis. His habit of going for shots on wide deliveries is again troubling him. Kohli has had this tendency from the start of his career but managed to counter it after failing in England in 2014.

The same issue has surfaced again, and Kohli is struggling to curb it. With Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring 161 runs and KL Rahul managing 77 in the second innings, Pujara feels the pitch is good to bat on, and if Virat spends some time, he will be able to score a ton.

“The pitch is still good for batting, and Virat Kohli has a chance to score a hundred. He has to spend some time before playing his shots. Kohli can convert his start into a big score as it is just the third day of the Test, and there is not much for bowlers. The cracks would open on Day 4 and Day 5, so I think Virat should take advantage of the situation,” Cheteshwar Pujara said on Star Sports.
