India is currently engaged with England in the fifth and final Test at The Oval. Gautam Gambhir, the head coach, is under pressure as the sub-continent has lost two consecutive series under his tenure.
Former England captain Michael Atherton warned Gambhir of the consequences if India loses the Oval Test. “They have lost two Test series in a row. New Zealand won in India and Australia got past the Rohit Sharma’s team in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. If they lose this series, he will under pressure as a coach,” he said on Sky Sports.
The BCCI has provided all the facilities to the Indian National Cricket Team, and the players are expected to deliver in every match.
“India have all the resources and with their population strength, people are not patient with the team. They are expected to win every match. So three Test sereis defeats in a row would be a problem for him,” he added.
Gambhir, who replaced Rahul Dravid as head coach after the 2024 T20 World Cup, has achieved success in white-ball cricket. However, he hasn’t been able to crack the Test cricket code. His aggressive behaviour has often landed him in controversies. The veteran was involved in a heated argument with the Oval pitch curator, Lee Fortis.
