Former South African cricketers Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Thami Tsolekile, and Ethy Mbhalati have been arrested for their involvement in corruption.
All three have been charged with five counts of corruption under Section 15 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, 2004, for their role in the match-fixing controversy during the 2015-16 Ram Slam T20 Challenge.
The trio is accused of accepting gifts to change the match’s result. South African police carried out a detailed investigation.
They were involved with Indian bookmakers who attempted to fix three matches during the domestic tournament. However, their plans were foiled.
Tsotsobe, Tsolekile, Mbhalati, and four other players were banned by Cricket South Africa between 2016 and 2017. Another accused, Gulam Bodi, was behind bars.
Jean Symes and Pumi Matshikwe’s jail terms were suspended after they accepted their crime in 2021 and 2022. No information is available on the charges against Alviro Petersen, the seven-player involved in the scandal.
The legal process is on against Tsotsobe, Tsolekile, and Mbhalati.
