“They get salaries because of India”: Sunil Gavaskar gives brutal reality check to Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton

Sunil Gavaskar has slammed former England captains Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton for questioning Team India’s Dubai advantage in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The two accused the ICC of giving special treatment to the Men in Blue by allowing them to play all their matches in Dubai.

Pakistan head coach Aaqib Javed, England captain Jos Buttler, Australia’s injured skipper Pat Cummins, and South Africa batter Rassie van der Dussen have raised the issue. India had refused to travel to Pakistan due to security concerns, and the apex body of Indian cricket and the PCB finalized Dubai as the venue for the matches.

With Rohit Sharma’s defeat easily defeating Bangladesh and Pakistan to qualify for the semifinals, the voices have become louder against the team.

“I think these wise people should be talking about their team. They are constantly going after India. Their players cannot play the ODIs and don’t care about the results,” Gavaskar told India Today.

“You must care for your country and the team you played for. You can’t be moaning about India every time. Let them do it as we have other things to focus on,” he added.

Gavaskar also reminded Hussain and Atherton about India’s financial clout and what it contributes to overall revenue.

“They don’t understand India’s position in world cricket. India are ahead in terms of generating revenue. Their salaries are also coming because of India and what it brings to the cricket world,” he concluded.
