Mumbai is taking on Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 semi-final. The most successful team in the history of Indian domestic cricket was in trouble, having lost seven wickets without even crossing the mark of the rival team on a challenging pitch. However, Shardul Thakur, who was dropped for the five-match Test series against England, hit a hundred to take Mumbai to a strong position against Tamil Nadu.
Replying to TN’s first innings score of 146, Mumbai was 106 for seven and was looking to concede a lead. Thakur found a partner in Hardik Tamore to bail out Mumbai from a tricky situation. Shardul was batting on 107 runs off 97 balls, with the help of 13 fours and four sixes at the time of writing. He added 105 runs with Hardik, who scored 35 runs.
After his dismissal, Thakur scripted another important stand with Tanush Kotian, who was unbeaten on 27, taking them to above 280 runs with a lead of 140.
Meanwhile, this is the 32-year-old’s maiden hundred in first-class cricket. He took 81 matches to reach a three-digit score, which arrived in one of the most important games for the side.
Thakur last played for India in the two-match Test series against South Africa, but the selectors were not convinced by his performance and didn’t consider him for the games against the Ben Stokes team. He has been in and out of the national team due to inconsistent performance, but the latest innings could script his comeback.
