Sunil Gavaskar has slammed India for canceling their intra-squad practice match ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting November 22 in Perth. The national team was supposed to play a three-day game against India A from November 15 to 17, but the senior players decided to call off the contest due to workload management.
“The workload management is the most talked about topic in Indian cricket. The players highlight this issue even if the game finishes in three days. Some of the New Zealand players hit the nets a day after defeating India in the third Test in Mumbai,” he wrote in the Mid Day.
“India will be in Australia for 57 days, but the number of match days is 27 days. That’s your workload,” he added.
Sunil Gavaskar further said that India generally lose the first Test in the SENA countries, so the importance of a warm-up match before the start of the series goes up.
“India generally lose in the first Test of the SENA countries. That’s why it was important for them to play against India A before the first Test in Perth,” he wrote.
“The batters can continue to bat in the nets even after getting dismissed three or more times. There is no pressure or tension in the practice sessions. Batting and bowling in the nets is not the same as playing in the match.”
India National Cricket Team will have to beat Australia 4-0 to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship.
