New Delhi: The Women for India’s Premier League (WPL) second season will start on February 23. Ahead of WPL 2, India’s women’s team opener Smriti Mandhana, who will lead RCB, expressed her desire to have the record for most World Cup titles won by a player. Notably, Mandhana had a disastrous opening season with RCB in the WPL. In 2023, RCB lost their first five matches.
However, before the start of the upcoming season, Mandhana revealed which great record she would like to add to her cricket list. In a video shared by RCB, Smriti revealed that she has the ambition to win most World Cups.
During a rapid-fire round of 18 questions, she was asked, “Which is the biggest record you would like to have to your name?” Smriti said, “I think the record of winning the most World Cups for India should be in my name.” It is known that Smriti has not won any title yet.
Smriti is currently the vice-captain of the Indian women’s team and takes over the captaincy in the absence of Harmanpreet Kaur. The RCB team rests on her shoulders. In an interview with Bangalore, Smriti said that her nickname is Beboo, which was given to her by her father because he had to work hard to pronounce the name Smriti.
Notably, India are yet to win a World Cup but have reached the finals in 2005 and 2017.
Women’s Premier League Season 2 to start from February 23
The full schedule for the Women’s Premier League 2024 has been announced. In the tournament’s opening match, last year’s champions Mumbai Indians will face last year’s finalist Delhi Capitals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on February 23, 2023.
A total of 22 matches will be played in the second season. All Women’s Premier League matches will start this year at 7:30 PM. The final of the WPL will be played on March 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, while the eliminator match will be played on March 15 at the same ground.
All league matches will be organized in two cities of India, Bengaluru and Delhi. The top three teams from the league stage will reach the playoffs of the 2024 WPL season. The team that finishes at the top of the league round will qualify directly for the final, while the teams that finish second and third will face off in the eliminator on March 15. The winner of this match will face the finalist team in Delhi on March 17.
