Shubman Gill is in sensational form in one-day internationals at the moment. After hitting two consecutive fifties in the first two ODIs against England, he slammed a hundred in the third and final contest of the series.
He also surpassed Hashim Amla, becoming the fastest to reach 2500 runs in the fifty-over format. The vice-captain of the Men in Blue took 50 innings to reach the landmark. The legendary South African batter batted for 51 innings to touch the mark.
With his latest three-digit mark, Gill completed seven hundreds in ODIs. He faced 95 balls to complete a ton, laced with 14 fours and 2 sixes.
In the series-opening game, Gill amassed 87 runs off 96 balls and was named the Player of the Match for taking India to a four-wicket win. The 25-year-old accumulated 60 runs off 52 balls in Cuttack.
Meanwhile, he was dismissed after scoring 112 runs off 102 deliveries in Ahmedabad. Gill hit 14 boundaries and 3 sixes.
His form is good news for India ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The sub-continent team will have to win all the group stage matches to confirm their place in the semi-finals, and Gill’s partnership with captain Rohit Sharma would be important for the 2013 champions. Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out, with Harshit Rana replacing the senior speedster.
India will clash with Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand in Dubai.
