Shakib Al Hasan gives a big shock to Bangladesh

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is still hurt as he did not get a chance to play his farewell Test against South Africa at home. The veteran wanted to finish his career in front of local fans, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board refused to provide him security for the game, forcing him to stay away from the country.

Shakib has now decided to skip the ODI series against Afghanistan. He was a Member of the Parliament during the previous government.

A complaint was registered against the star player and several others by a person after his son was killed in the political unrest in the country.

The BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) president, Faruque Ahmed, revealed that Shakib will not play three ODIs against Afghanistan.

Faruque mentioned that Shakib decided to opt out of the series. He feels Shakib needs some time to recover after he failed to get a farewell Test match in Bangladesh.

He last played in the two-test series against India and will now play in the Abu Dhabi T10 League for the Bangla Tigers.

The Tigers will play three one-day internationals on November 6, 9, and 11 before heading to the West Indies for two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is. Shakib has retired from Test format and T20Is and will only compete in fifty-over games. The 37-year-old is looking forward to the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.

“Shakib couldn’t play his farewell Test in Bangladesh and hasn’t practised a lot. He needs time to get back to cricket. He is likely to miss the ODI series against Afghanistan. He has a future with the country’s ODI team, and Shakib can play a big role in the ICC Champions Trophy. He will get three ODIs against the West Indies to prepare for the ICC tournament,” Faruque said.

“Shakib has been playing cricket for 17 years and knows what is needed to recover from consistent cricket. It is the best thing to train with the national team, and we will consider him if he stays fine and in shape by training or playing franchise cricket abroad.”
