Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer have opted out of the Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy match despite performing poorly in the outing against Jammu & Kashmir. After India’s flop show against New Zealand and Australia in red-ball matches, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made it mandatory for the national cricketers to compete in Ranji Trophy matches.
Rohit, Jaiswal and Iyer were found wanting against the J&K bowlers. Sharma scored 31 across two innings, with pacers troubling him. He looked set in the second innings but perished after amassing 28. Yashasvi, who was India’s best batter in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, posted 4 and 26 in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy contest. Iyer was easily dismissed by the opposite numbers. They will compete in the upcoming three-match ODI series against England.
The Men in Blue are currently playing a five-match T20I series against the Jos Buttler-led team.
A source in the Mumbai Cricket Association confirmed the unavailability of Rohit, Jaiswal and Iyer.
