India captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that he might skip the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia in Perth, which starts on November 22. He is likely to miss the contest due to personal reasons.
Rohit commented after India’s 0-3 home Test series whitewash against New Zealand. Jasprit Bumrah, who was down with viral in Mumbai Test, would lead the India National Cricket Team in the series opener before Rohit returns for the second game on December 6.
“I am not sure of my availability for the first Test in Perth,” Rohit Sharma said.
Rohit, who is facing criticism for India’s shocking performance, accepted that his captaincy and batting weren’t up to the mark against the Kiwis.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is not pleased with the performance of the national team.
Rohit was asked about India’s Test future if the series against Australia doesn’t go well for the visiting team. Rohit said he doesn’t want to look that far ahead and his focus on the next task.
“It is important to focus on the Australia Test series instead of thinking what lies ahead for us after the tour.
“I’m not going to look beyond Australia series. We will try to perform well in the games against Australia,” he added.
India are aiming to win their third consecutive Test away series down under.
