Suresh Raina has said that Rohit Sharma is the next MS Dhoni as a captain. Raina commented after India won the Test series against England in Ranchi. The host nation took an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series after beating England by 5 wickets in the fourth match.
In an interaction with the Times of India, the southpaw said Rohit has been giving chances to the young players like Dhoni did during his active days in international cricket. Raina also feels that Rohit is going in the right direction and is a brilliant leader.
“He is the next MS Dhoni and his giving chances to young players like Dhoni. MS Dhoni was supported by Sourav Ganguly and then Mahi led from the front. He is a brilliant skipper.”
Raina also hailed Rohit for giving a chance to Dhruv Jurel, who was named the Player of the Match in the fourth Test against England.
“I want to give credit to Rohit Sharma for including Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel in Playing XI,” he added.
The former cricketer also lauded Rohit for managing workload of the players. Jasprit Bumrah was rested from the Ranchi Test and Akash Deep was included in his place.
“Rohit is a good planner and he is giving chances to the young cricketers. He is also rotating the players to perfection. I haven’t seen this in the last couple of years. It is not easy to lead India in international cricket. He has been managing the workload of pacers to avoid injuries. Bumrah was rested and Akash took his place. Rohit is handling the players well.”
India and England will compete in the final Test match in Dharamshala, starting on March 7.
