“Putting Australia first for eight years paid off”: Alyssa Healy on Mitchell Starc getting INR 24.75 crore in IPL auction

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc‘s staggering record bid at the IPL Auction 2024 serves as a strong validation for prioritizing his commitment to the national team, according to Alyssa Healy, captain of the Australia women’s team and Starc’s wife.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured Starc’s services in a historic moment at the IPL 2024 auction, breaking the bank with a jaw-dropping bid of Rs. 24.75 crore. This landmark acquisition marked Starc’s sensational return to the IPL after an eight-year hiatus, making him the most expensive player in IPL history.

The bidding war for Starc unfolded with multiple teams vying for the renowned pacer. Eventually, it narrowed down to a face-off between KKR and Gujarat Titans. Despite both teams displaying unwavering determination to secure Starc, it was Gujarat Titans who eventually withdrew.

Starc outperformed the previous record set by fellow Australian Pat Cummins, who Sunrisers Hyderabad had bought for Rs 20 crore in a fierce competition.

Speaking to the media during her visit to India for the one-off Test against the Indian women’s team, Healy expressed her excitement for Starc.

“This is a huge deal for Mitch! All his hard work has paid off in this amazing moment. He’s made some tough choices over the past eight years, putting his country before himself, and this is a great win for him,” she said.
