Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairperson Mohsin Naqvi is likely to become the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) after Jay Shah leaves the post. According to PTI, Naqvi will head the cricketing body due to the rotational system of the ACC. Jay Shah was at the helm for three years, with a one-year contract extension included in the term.
According to a source’s words to PTI, a meeting took place to name Naqvi as the new president. The current PCB chairman will have the responsibility for the Asia Cup 2025 in his new role. The Continental Cup will be played in the T20 format in India, followed by the ODI edition in Bangladesh in 2027. Naqvi is already handling the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
‘When the ACC meets later this year, it will confirm Naqvi as the next president for two years. When Jay Shah steps down, the PCB chief will lead the body,” the source told PTI.
India and Pakistan are at loggerheads at the moment as the BCCI doesn’t want to send the team to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Pakistan traveled to India for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, but the Indian Cricket Board is not interested in playing in the neighboring country due to security concerns.
