Australia Test captain Pat Cummins has started playing mind games ahead of the third Test, warning India of bouncers at the Gabba. Australia were able to put Indian players on the back foot with the strategy of bouncers, and the pacer suggested that it will continue in the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Brisbane.
Cummins was under pressure after Australia lost the first Test by 295 runs, but the skipper bounced back as the team not only registered a 10-wicket win in Adelaide, but the leader of the pack took five wickets in the second innings.
He bowled perfect bouncers to the Indian batters, who ended up playing reckless shots to give wickets to the host nation.
“Yes,’ Cummins said when asked about the barrage of bouncers against Indian players in the third Test.
“It worked in our favour in Adelaide and it is always in the back of your mind as Plan B or if it is looking uncomfortable and likely to get wickets, many be it is Plan A for some of the batters. I am sure we will give it a shot at some point in the third Test,” he added.
India managed 180 and 175 across both innings in the pink-ball Test.
Cummins said that the Gabba pitch might not be as lively as its reputation says.
“The wicket looked good and with sun out for the last couple of days, I don’t think it is as grean and leafy as it was against South Africa,” he concluded.
Josh Hazlewood has recovered from a side strain and has been added to the playing XI. Scott Boland, who was magnificent in the previous game, has been left out.
