Musheer Khan was delighted to score his maiden hundred for the U-19 Indian team. The 18-year-old slammed a 89-ball century against Ireland on Thursday, January 25 at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.
Musheer couldn’t do much in the first game against Bangladesh and was dismissed by left-arm pacer Maruf Mridha for 3 runs. However, he made his performance count in the next match.
“It feel great to score a hundred for your team. I hurried a bit in the last match against Bangladesh. I decided to give sometime to myself in the game with Ireland,” Musheer was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation ceremony.
On the same day, his elder brother Sarfaraz Khan scored 161 runs for India A while playing against England Lions. The younger brother said their techniques are similar.
Musheer wants to get better in the ongoing tournament.
“Both are styles are similar and the six I hit over the mid-wicket was the best. I am glad that I contributed to the team’s cause. I want to improve my batting as I am not satisfied with what I did against Ireland,” he said.
Uday Saharan, who is the captain of the U-19 Indian team, heaped massive praise on his teammate. He added 156 runs with Musheer Khan for the third wicket after India lost two early wickets.
“We played a good game. The partnership with Musheer Khan was good. It wa a tough wicket to bat on and we did a good job by staying till the end. We took the game deep and executed our plans. We really work hard on our fielding and the results were visible on the field,” Saharan said.
India posted 301 runs in 50 overs and bowled out Ireland for 100 runs in 29.4 overs to win the match by 201 runs.
India’s next match is against the United States of America (USA) on Sunday, January 28 in Bloemfontein.
