Nicholas Pooran made history with a blistering 70 off 26 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium on Thursday (March 27), leading Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to a five-wicket victory with 23 balls to spare.
Following a strong bowling performance from LSG, Pooran and Mitchell Marsh put together a rapid 116-run partnership in just 43 balls. Marsh also impressed, scoring 52 from 31 balls for his second consecutive half-century.
Pooran’s explosive 70 off 26 balls, at a strike rate of 269.23 with six boundaries and six sixes, made history. He became the first player in IPL history to score three knocks over 70 runs, each at a strike rate above 250.
These three knocks have come in his last three IPL innings, including 75 off 29 balls against Mumbai Indians in LSG’s 2024 season finale and 75 off 30 balls against Delhi Capitals in the 2025 season opener.

Pooran is now the first player to score four knocks of 60 or more runs at a strike rate above 250 in IPL history. His previous record includes a memorable 62 from 19 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2023 season at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, achieved at a strike rate of 326.31. This performance surpassed the records of Kieron Pollard and Travis Head, who had three such knocks each.
Pooran’s achievement of four scores over 50, all at a strike rate above 250, ties him with Kieron Pollard for the most such knocks in IPL history. Meanwhile, Jake Fraser-McGurk holds the distinction of being the only player with multiple scores of over 60 runs and a strike rate exceeding 300. Suresh Raina’s 25-ball 87 (SR: 348.00) against Kings XI Punjab in the 2014 IPL qualifier remains the highest strike rate for any knock over 60 runs.
