Mohammed Shami scripts history, becomes the first Indian bowler too…

Mohammed Shami scripted a few records in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match between India and Bangladesh. The veteran took five wickets and broke Zaheer Khan’s record of the highest wickets by an Indian bowler in the ICC white-ball tournaments. Shami has claimed 60 wickets, while Zaheer managed 59 scalps. Javagal Srinath is in the third spot with 47 dismissals to his name.

Shami has also registered the most five-wicket hauls for the Men in Blue. He has achieved the feat five times, while Jasprit Bumrah is second on the list with three five-wicket hauls.

The right-arm pacer is the second fastest to complete 200 wickets in the fifty-over format. He completed the landmark in 103 matches, with Mitchell Starc leading the table. Australia speedster dismissed 200 rival batters in 102 games.

He was out of the team for more than a year due to an ankle injury. Shami was recalled to the Indian team for the five-match T20I series against England. He was then given a chance in a three-ODI assignment against the Jos Buttler-led team. The selectors were convinced by his performance and included him in the team for the Champions Trophy.
