Mohammad Kaif said that one should not follow social media trends to criticize Shubman Gill.
Before the five-match Test series against England, Gill was battling for form and even failed in the first Test in Hyderabad. But he found his touch back in the second Test in Vizag and there was no looking back.
Kaif heaped praise on Gill after the Indian batter brought up his hundred in 5th Test at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala.
Gill scored 110 runs off 150 balls, with the help of 12 fours and 5 sixes before James Anderson got his wicket. Kaif said Gill should not be written off due to some failures.
“When criticising a player like Shubman Gill, don’t follow social media trends, think about his class. Top players can’t be written off because of loss of form,” he wrote on X.
Gill added more than 150 runs with captain Rohit Sharma, who hit a century as well. India were 473/8 at stumps on Day 2, with a lead of 255 runs. Gill has scored 452 runs from at an average of 56.50 with 2 hundreds and 2 fifties.
