It took 19.3 overs and 9 wickets for Delhi Capitals to register a win over Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League. The team was 65/5 at one stage, and they were almost out of the contest, but the likes of Ashutosh Sharma and Vipraj Nigam went on an attacking spree and completed the task for the franchise. It was Axar Patel’s first game as a captain after getting the armband on a permanent basis.
The captain was delighted with the performance of the players and had an interesting take on the nature of the contest. He scored 22 runs and conceded just 18 runs from his three overs.
“Make it a habit, as Delhi Capitals will play like this under my captaincy. My decisions will be up and down in the tournament. You will get angry and happy at times. I haven’t seen a team winning a game after losing four wickets in powerplay overs in the past. Nobody will ask questions now about why I gave one over to Tristan Stubbs, as we have won,” he said.
“We conceded runs early in the innings and even dropped a catch. However, we pulled things back in the last seven overs. Vipraj Nigam is talented, and that’s why we played him,” he added.
For the record, Stubbs conceded 28 runs in an over, while Sameer Rizvi dropped Nicholas Pooran’s catch, who went on to score 75 runs off 30 balls.
