India all-rounder Washington Sundar has heaped massive praise on Gautam Gambhir, the new head coach. Sundar said the veteran has made an impact since joining the team and has provided a lot of input regarding tactical changes.
Gambhir replaced Rahul Dravid, whose tenure ended after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. India won the T20I series 3-0 against Sri Lanka, giving a terrific start to the new coach. However, the Men in Blue are 0-1 down in the three-match ODI series. The first game ended in a tie, while Sri Lanka won the second by 32 runs.
The third and final contest will be played on Wednesday, August 7. Speaking at the press conference, Sundar shared his views on Gambhir.
“He is giving a lot of input to the players. He was an exceptional spin bowling player. We saw him give match-winning performances against quality spinners,” he said.
“That is one of the reasons we practiced a day before the game. We tried to bring in small changes tactically and be prepared for the last game,” he added.
The 24-year-old has made tweaks to his bowling to be more impactful.
“I always try to work hard and find ways to be successful. I have added a couple of things to my bowling to become more impactful.”
Sundar wants to contribute with the bat as well. “It is important for me to contribute with the bat. I am looking forward to doing well for the team with the bat, especially when we are chasing, and the situation is challenging.”
