There is no denying that Virat Kohli has been struggling for a long time. He is completely out of touch in Test cricket, and his ODI form is also under scrutiny. Although he scored more than 700 runs in the 2023 ODI World Cup, the veteran has failed after that.
He couldn’t score big in the ODI series against Sri Lanka last year, and now, barring one fifty against England, the right-handed batter was found wanting.
However, several former cricketers and Virat’s childhood coach are not ready to give up on the player and have been urging the critics to focus on his past to under the stature of the batter.
His coach, Rajkumar Sharma, is confident of Kohli’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 success.
“Just because he couldn’t score runs in some matches, doesn’t mean he is not in form. When you look at his previous record, you will understand what he did for India. He will perform like a champion in the Champions Trophy,” he said.
The 36-year-old has amassed 529 runs in just 13 matches, at an average of 88.16 and a strike rate of 92.32, in the Champions Trophy.
The legendary batter has smashed five fifties in the tournament, with his highest score of 96 not out coming against Bangladesh in the semi-final in 2017.
The team management is backing the player to be among the top run-scorers in the upcoming edition of the Champions Trophy.
