Jasprit Bumrah has been facing heat from some quarters for picking and choosing matches during the England Test series. The pacer played three games and was rested from the Edgbaston and Oval Tests.
He took 14 wickets but was not a part of two wins in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Bumrah started the series with a five-wicket haul in the first innings of the series opener in Leeds, but was not impressive in the second. The visitors lost the contest by five wickets. He added another five-fifer at Lord’s, but India failed to cross the finishing line again.
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has hit out at the speedster and the team management.
“There were moments when a sixth over was needed from Jasprit Bumrah as Joe Root was batting, and the England batter had been dismissed by him 11 times. In the Lord’s Test, Bumrah bowled five overs in a spell. I feel one more over would have been good, but he held back. There was also pick and choose, which I am not in favour of,” Pathan said.
Pathan said that Bumrah performed in the games he played, but the fast bowler didn’t live up to expectations.
“He bowled well and took five-wicket hauls, but he is the number one bowler in the world, and there are expectations to see a better performance from the best in the world, but he didn’t live up to that,” he added.
The former player gave Bumrah six out of ten ratings. “Bumarh will get six out of 10 because when you are a senior player, you have the responsibility to win matches. He played in three Tests, but India didn’t win one,” he mentioned.
