Rohit Sharma, who returned to Ranji Trophy after almost a decade, failed in his first attempt against Jammu & Kashmir. He has been struggling to play a pull shot and his favourite stroke is resulting in his downfall. He played a half-hearted shot on Umar Nazir’s delivery and was caught in the thirty-yard circle.
The veteran scored just 3 runs off 19 balls, with Mumbai failing to break free.
Umar didn’t celebrate the scalp of the Indian captain and revealed the reason as well.
“I am big fan of Rohit Sharma and that is why I didn’t celebrate after taking his wicket today,” he told The Indian Express.
Mumbai were bowled out for 120 after their captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and elected to bat first. Umar Nazir (4 wickets), Yudhvir Singh (4 wickets) and Auqib Nabi (2 wickets) bowled brilliantly. J&K were 174/7 at stumps on Day 1.
Meanwhile, Rohit is under the scanner for his failures in red-ball cricket. He scored 31 runs in three Tests against Australia and the right-handed batter is likely to be dropped from the Test team.
