Former Zimbabwe cricket coach Andy Flower said that it would be right to call India’s new head coach, Gautam Gambhir, an “inspirational leader” rather than a coach. He believes the legendary India batter has the talent and skills to succeed in his role.
India have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka in Gambhir’s first series as coach.
In the two T20Is, India played aggressive cricket, an approach Gambhir had always wanted from the subcontinent team.
Before his ongoing stint with India, Gambhir had never coached any team. He was the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants for two years and then the Kolkata Knight Riders for one season.
Flower gave his take on Gautam, saying that he has the qualities to achieve success.
“He has got the characteristics of a successful head coach. He hasn’t coached any team in the past but it doesn’t matter. It is better to call him an inspirational leader than a coach,” Flower said, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo.
“GG has strong opinions and knows how to get the best out of the players. He has a clear idea of the brand of cricket he wants the India players to play.”
