India are facing the music in the ongoing fourth Test in Ranchi. England bowlers have bowled well, with the host nation losing six wickets while replying to England’s 353 in the first innings. Former England player Stuart Broad has highlighted the biggest blunder committed by the Rohit Sharma-led team. He feels resting Jasprit Bumrah was not right.
Joe Root’s unbeaten 122 and a timely fifty by Ollie Robinson took England’s total to 353. India suffered a big blow when Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 2 runs. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal, the best batter in the series, scored 73 runs off 117 balls, with the help of 8 fours and 1 six. He shared a partnership of 82 runs with Shubman Gill, who amassed 38 runs.
Rajat Patidar (17), Ravindra Jadeja (12), Sarfaraz Khan (14) and Ravichandran Ashwin (1) failed to contribute. Shoaib Bashir (4 wickets), Tom Hartley (2 wickets) and James Anderson (1) kept India under pressure.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah was rested from the fourth Test to manage his workload. In the last three Tests, he has bowled more than 100 overs, taking 17 wickets.
Broad was baffled by Team India’s tactics.
“Haven’t seen much of this Test match as of yet, just clicked on now. England massively on top. Spinners bowling accurately, uneven bounce. Cracks. Bowlers dream. 350 looks 100 above par. Toss in this series seems crucial. Bat first, dominate the game. Bumrah ‘rested’- can’t understand it. 8 overs in his last innings. Handed initiative back to England,” he wrote on X.
India are leading the series 2-1, having won two games in Vizag and Rajkot.
