The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 will not be played outside India. There were reports that the Indian Cricket Board is planning to take the tournament to the UAE due to Lok Sabha elections in India.
However, Jay Shah, the secretary of the cricket board, has refuted such reports, stating that there is no possibility of moving the tournament to some other country. “IPL won’t be moved overseas,” Jay Shah told Cricbuzz. There were reports that the franchises are collecting the passports of the players for the visa purpose.
The reports further stated that the BCCI officials have landed in Dubai to make the arrangements.
The Election Commission of India has announced the dates, with the polling set to take place in seven stages from April 19 to June 4.
With the election schedule out, the BCCI is likely to release the remaining fixtures. Earlier, the dates for the first 21 games, from March 22 to April 7, were announced. The first match will be played between the defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22.
