Former India player Sunil Gavaskar has issued a clarification on his comments on Josh Hazlewood and possible rifts among the Australian players. Former players Ryan Harris and Aaron Finch have slammed Gavaskar for his statements on the unity of the host nation. Captain Pat Cummins had also lambasted commentators for fueling the stories of unrest.
Gavaskar was facing massive flak, and he decided to set the record straight with a statement on Day 1 of the second Test against Australia.
“I didn’t say anything about their dressing room. It was former Australian players and some others who said that all was not well, and I picked on from there. I only asked if such stories were true as Josh Hazlewood batted without any discomfort and he was suddenly ruled out of the second Test.
“I said mystery, mystery, and that I was loving it. It was about Team India’s performance, and I enjoyed their performances. I never said that there were cracks in the Australian dressing room,” he said on Star Sports.
After Day 3, Hazlewood was asked about the team’s strategy to chase down 534 with a score of 15/3. The pacer urged the journalist to pose the question to the batters. Adam Gilchrist, Michael Vaughan, and Ravi Shastri felt that all was not well between the players, and their speculation went viral in no time.
