“I am 200 percent fit and raring to go”: Kolkata Knight Riders’ new pace sensation gears up for the 18th season

India fast bowler Umran Malik went unsold in the first round of the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, he got lucky in the second as Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for INR 75 lakh. He was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the bidding process. He has fallen out of favour after inconsistent performances.

Umran was also given a chance in the national team but couldn’t continue for a long time. However, he can clock the 150 kmph mark.

In the IPL 2022, he took 22 wickets in 14 matches and became an instant sensation. However, he struggled with form and injuries in the previous two seasons. Malik is now looking forward to the 18th season and is confident of turning things around.

“I am happy to join the Kolkata Knight Riders, and I can’t wait to get their jersey. I am sure they will be able to defend their title in the new season. I am grateful that they invested in me,” Umran told TimesofIndia.com.

He further said that he is 200 percent fit, and the fans will see a different version of him in the upcoming season.

“I am hopeful of playing several games for KKR. I am 200 percent fit and raring to go. You will see a different Umran Malik this time. I want to take wickets and make a comeback to the Indian National Cricket Team,” he added.

His last game for the Men in Blue was the second ODI against the West Indies in July 2023.

In 10 one-day internationals, he has taken 13 wickets and 11 wickets in 8 T20Is. With 29 wickets from 26 IPL matches, Malik has yet to show his potential in the best T20 tournament in the world.
