Former India player Harbhajan Singh lauded Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Virat Kohli for his consistency in the Indian Premier League. With over 8500 runs, the 36-year-old is the highest run-scorer in the history of the tournament. In the recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the veteran scored 43 runs but RCB failed to cross the finishing line. Kohli added 80 runs with Phil Salt but their partnership went in vain as Hyderabad registered a 42-run win.
Bengaluru have already qualified for the playoffs but their hope of finishing among the top two teams has taken a hit. Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings are in a better position to end the league stage above RCB. Bhajji reminded Bengaluru batters that responsibility of scoring runs is not with Virat and others will have to contribute.
“Responsibility of scoring runs is not always with Virat Kohli. I know we expect him to contribute in every match as he is a big player but others will have to give their best as well in the remaining matches. He is a bank of 500 runs in every season,” Harbhajan Singh said.
“He needs to find 3-4 people who can take the team forward. I think the break of 20 days broke their (RCB) momentum. The under-performing teams have returned to winning ways after a suspension of the league. SRH and LSG have won matches but RCB and GT, the top two teams suffered defeats. RCB can’t depend on their openers,” he added.
