Joe Root crossed the 150-run mark in the first Test against Pakistan in Multan. Former England captain Michael Vaughan said that Jasprit Bumrah is the only current bowler that Joe Root has failed to dominate. The right-handed batter became England’s highest run-getter in Test cricket. Vaughan mentioned that bowlers wait for Root to make mistakes.
On Day 3 of the Multan Test, Root surpassed Alastair Cook’s tally of 12,472 runs in a five-day format. In his column for The Telegraph, the 49-year-old former captain wrote that all the batters have struggled against Bumrah, given his quality as a bowler. Vaughan also reckoned that Root’s resume is incomplete, with only a hundred in Australia.
“Jasprit Bumrah remains the only bowler who has been remarkable against Joe Root. Joe hasn’t been able to dominate him. He will be working on that and thinking about how to handle him next summer when India play in England. He hasn’t scored a hundred in Australia, but the last time he batted down under, I didn’t see any technical problem.”
In 24 innings, Bumrah has taken Joe Root’s wicket nine times and was impactful against the star batter in the last home series.
Vaughan also wrote that Joe Root will surpass Sachin Tendulkar on the list of the leading run-scorers in Test cricket. Sachin amassed 15921 runs in 200 Tests.
