Hardik Pandya agreed to return to Mumbai Indians after owners assured him of change in captaincy: Report

Rohit Sharma was informed by Mumbai Indians at the start of the ICC World Cup 2023 about Hardik Pandya’s return to the franchise for the IPL 2023, this time as skipper. According to the Indian Express, the all-rounder agreed to play for the five-time champions on one condition that he would be made the franchise skipper immediately after completing the move.

Rohit was told that the franchise was looking at someone who could lead the team for years. He was made to understand about the immediate change in leadership in meetings and he agreed to play under Pandya’s captaincy.

Pandya was recently brought back by MI from Gujarat Titans in a trade. Pandya wanted the captaincy at any cost and made it clear to the owners that he is ready to return but he will be their captain . The management agreed to Pandya’s demand and informed Sharma. Rohit told the franchise to go ahead with what they want.

Pandya, who had left MI for Gujarat in 2022, led the new franchise to a title in their maide IPL season. Defending the title in 2023, Pandya’s team made it to the final but couldn’t defeat Chennai Super Kings.
