According to a Cricbuzz report, the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) has nominated the legendary spinner for the top post in Indian cricket. The official list hasn’t been revealed, but candidates backed by state cricket associations are eligible to contest in the election.
Harbhajan played 367 international matches and took over 700 wickets across formats. He is currently a Member of Parliament. The BCCI election process will start soon, with electoral officer AK Joti confirming that the nomination window will open on September 20 and 21. The scrutiny will be done on September 22, and the candidates can withdraw their nominations on September 23.
Voting and counting will take place on September 28. Meanwhile, September 12 was the last day for the state associations to give names of their representatives, who are eligible to attend the board’s AGM.
The election process will also elect vice-president, secretary, joint secretary and treasurer. However, it seems Devajit Saikia, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia and Rohan Dessai are expected to continue as secretary, treasurer and joint secretary, respectively.
Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar’s name also came up for the post of the BCCI president, but his team denied the reports.
