Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has shared his thoughts on the Gujarat Titans‘ (GT) chances of reaching the IPL 2025 final, suggesting that they no longer seem like a team capable of making it. He pointed out that Shubman Gill and the rest of the squad do not appear as dominant as they did earlier in the tournament. GT suffered a heavy defeat, losing by 83 runs to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their last IPL 2025 league match, played in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 25. CSK posted a total of 230/5, and GT were dismissed for 147 in their chase.
On his YouTube channel, ‘Aakash Chopra’, the former Indian opener commented that for Gujarat Titans to have a shot at Qualifier 1, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) must not win their final league match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). However, Chopra added that even if Gujarat Titans get two opportunities to qualify, their chances of reaching the final are still looking slim.
“Firstly, securing a spot in the top two has become more challenging now. Their success is now dependent on the performance of others. Even if they manage to finish in the top two, they don’t seem like a team that can make it further. It was once the case, but now it’s no longer the same team,” he mentioned.
“They peaked too soon, and with some players set to leave, the addition of Kusal Mendis won’t spark the same momentum. This team seems to have lost much of its energy. Meanwhile, Chennai looked stronger, thanks to Ayush Mhatre, Urvil Patel, and Dewald Brevis,” he added.
“The IPL is the world’s ultimate reality show. Wildcard entries are part of reality shows. These three players came in and made an amazing impact. They helped the team reach a score of 230.”
Ayush Mhatre made a vital contribution with 34 runs off 17 balls, while Urvil Patel smashed 37 from 19 deliveries. Dewald Brevis played an explosive knock, scoring 57 runs from just 23 balls, and formed a significant 74-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, who remained unbeaten on 21 off 18 balls.
