Former coach reveals why Umran Malik lost faith of Team India’s captain

Umran Malik was once the most talked about pacer in India. His ability to regularly touch 150 kmph didn’t go unnoticed, as the youngster was drafted into the Indian team after just one good season in the Indian Premier League.

He started on a good note for Team India but couldn’t continue for a long time, and was dropped from the national team. Umran also lost his place in the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Playing XI.

Former India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, who witnessed the speedster’s rise and fall, revealed the reason behind Umran’s exclusion.

“Someone having raw pace is a rare commodity. I don’t get carried away when I see someone bowling quickly. Pace was his strength. He was definitely quick and was clocking 140 kmph regularly,” Mhambrey told Indian Express.

“If you don’t have control, you will soon lose the faith of the captain, and this is what happened with Umran.

“He should play in Ranji Trophy matches to have control over his bowling. This is what I want him to do. Once he plays in a full Ranji Trophy season, even under pressure, he will be able to solve his issues.”

Umran’s last appearance for the Indian team came in July last year.
