Solo travel is becoming more popular and for many Britons, it’s something they’d like to tick off their bucket list.

However, solo travellers generally need to take more precautions when it comes to safety. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be an incredibly rewarding experience.

A new ranking from InsureMyTrip has rated the world’s safest cities for solo women travellers. It looked at gender equality, safety walking alone at night, daily travel costs and number of activities.

Munich, one of Germany’s prettiest holiday destinations, was crowned as Europe’s safest city for a solo trip.

The Bavarian city is famed for the annual Oktoberfest festival, its pretty Old Town square and huge urban park.

Marienplatz, Munich’s gorgeous city square, is the city’s top-rated attraction on Tripadvisor. A tourist ‘Evelyn R’ wrote on the review platform: “It’s the heart of the city and definitely worth a visit.”

While the city is often busiest during autumn when it celebrates Oktoberfest, summer is a fantastic time to visit Munich.

The city’s Englischer Garten is one of the world’s largest urban parks and it’s a beautiful green space to enjoy during summer.

Munich is also one of Europe’s most walkable cities with the majority of its central attractions within an easy walk from each other.

London ranked as the third safest destination for solo travellers while Spanish capital Madrid took the second spot.

Outside of Europe, Dubai and Chiang Mai were the only holiday destinations to make the list while Dubai was recently named the world’s favourite hotspot by Tripadvisor.
