Europe’s breathtakingly beautiful hidden gem with ‘award winning beaches’ | Travel News | Travel

Dreaming of escaping the UK for a European holiday? A beautiful destination in Italy has been named as one of the country’s best hidden gems.

The travel expert team at Home2Go have used search data to find some of Europe’s best-kept secrets.

While Marina di Camerota in Italy’s Salerno region is barely known by British tourists, it’s a top destination for Italian travellers.

A spokesperson said: “While Marina di Camerota lists as Italy’s 33rd most-searched location among Italians, it ranks in 1,12th place with visitors from the UK.

“Perched on the Cilento coast, Marina di Camerota is celebrated for its award-winning beaches. A stroll through its quaint, narrow old town leads to a picturesque harbour.”

Cala Bianca Beach is the area’s best-rated beach with crystal clear water backed by green hills.

A tourist ‘Tasmyn’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “It is a beach with pale grey/white stones so polished, they look like eggs from a surreal bird. Crystal clear waters and a wonderful cove which you can reach by swimming.”

Marina di Camerota is also home to several caves that date back to the Stone Age. Archaeologists found animal bones and painted pebbles in the caves.

Although some of the caves are within walking distance of the town centre, others can only be reached by boat.

Marina di Camerota’s Old Town is pretty and the residents celebrate their patron saint in a festival every August.

Unsurprisingly, the town is a fantastic place to eat seafood with many restaurants for tourists to choose from.
