England pacer Brydon Carse has been handed a three-month ban from all forms of cricket after being found guilty of placing bets on cricket matches, a violation of the sport’s anti-gambling regulations. This suspension has now dashed Carse’s hopes of making his Test debut for England during the upcoming summer fixtures, including the West Indies series, for which he was under consideration.
It is believed that Carse did not participate in any of the games on which he had gambled. The matches on which the pacer had wagered happened almost five years ago. It is reported that between 2017 and 2019, the pacer bet 303 times on different games. Additionally, Carse received a suspended two-year, thirteen-month ban. The period of Carse’s prohibition is May 28–August 28.
In an official statement, the ECB stated that they agreed with the Cricket Regulator’s decision to give Carse the ban. Additionally, the board expressed satisfaction with the pacer’s growth during the previous five years.
“We take these issues seriously and support no anti-corruption violations in cricket. We agree with the Cricket Regulator’s ruling and their assessment of Brydon’s case’s mitigating circumstances. He has cooperated and expressed regret for his actions. We are confident that in the five years after this breach, Brydon has matured and exhibited greater awareness of his duties. We hope that other cricket players can learn from his experiences,” the statement said.
Carse thanked the PCA, Durham Cricket, and ECB for their support and stated that he would accept full responsibility for his actions.
The 28-year old pacer released a statement, “Even though these bets were placed years ago, that is no excuse and I accept full responsibility for my actions.” “I want to express my gratitude to Durham Cricket, the PCA, and the ECB for their assistance at this tough period for me. I’m going to put in a lot of effort over the next twelve weeks to make sure that, when I’m able to play again, I repay that support on the pitch.”
Carse has featured in 14 ODI’s and 3 T20I’s in his career so far.
