Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Delhi Capitals by 14 runs to keep their playoff chances alive. The visiting team posted 205/9 with no batter scoring a fifty. Defending the total, they were behind at one stage, but Sunil Narine’s three-wicket tally put them ahead, and DC couldn’t cross the finishing line. Axar Patel’s team managed 190/9 in the allotted 20 overs. Narine got rid of Faf du Plessis (62), Axar Patel (43), and Tristan Stubbs (1).
Earlier, Narine scored 27 runs off 16 balls, laced with 2 fours and 2 sixes. KL Rahul was run out on Narine’s throw, and the legendary West Indies player also took a catch.
It was a perfect game for him, and the spinner was deservingly named the Player of the Match.
Former India and Chennai Super Kings player Suresh Raina hailed the all-rounder. “I have played against him in the Indian Premier League. If he gets spin and you don’t read him from the hand, he becomes unplayable. It was a perfect birthday gift for Andre Russell from Narine’s side,” Suresh Raina said.
Russell turned 37 on April 29. Meanwhile, Narine has been the best performer for the Knight Riders and is delivering match-winning performances for years. In 186 matches for the three-time champions, he has taken 190 wickets and scored 1712 runs.
