After Steve Smith, Mitchell Marsh suffers a brain fade moment; walks off in the Adelaide Test

It seems Australian batters are under massive pressure in the ongoing series against India. Steve Smith was not out but walked off thinking he had nicked the ball after Rishabh Pant grabbed it. He didn’t look at the umpire. There was no spike on the Snickometer, but the star batter decided to leave. It was not a one-off incident, as Mitchell Marsh repeated the same mistake.

He was beaten by R Ashwin’s delivery with Pant grabbing it cleanly behind the stumps. The off-spinner and the wicker-keeper went up late, but by then, the Aussies all-rounder had already left the crease, giving another wicket to the Indian team. There was no spike on the Snickometer once again, but the batter walked off.

Harbhajan Singh was surprised by Marsh’s act. “Mitchell Marsh was not out, but he decided to declare himself out. He didn’t nick the ball,” Harbhajan Singh said on Star Sports.

Meanwhile, a half-century by Marnus Labuschagne and a hundred by Travis Head have put Australia in a strong position in the day-night Test. Australia is trailing by 0-1 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, having lost the series opener. Mitchell Starc’s 6 wickets kept India to 180 runs in their first innings, with none of the batters scoring a fifty.
